Fitzroy Student Hub: Blackboard

Blackboard tips and tricks

Welcome to your learning portal

Blackboard is a virtual learning environment and course management system. It is the Learning Portal we use at Fitzroy Campus and across all Think Education Colleges. You will use it to access all of your subject notes and assessment information, communicate with your lecturer and other students via direct messaging and discussion forums, submit assessments and complete quizzes, and much more.

Blackboard works best in Google Chrome or Firefox web browser.

These documents will help you get acquainted with Blackboard.

Tips for accessing content in Blackboard Learn

I'm having trouble with blackboard features running effectively on my computer (such as the articulates).

Troubleshooting & possible solutions:

  • Cleared your cache
  • Cleared your history
  • Installed or updated Adobe Flash
  • Am I using the correct browser? See above Desktop Browser Support
  • Enable pop-ups in your browser
  • Java and other Browser plugins - Some blackboard features require additional software to be installed. Without these, the features themselves do not function. Users may be prompted to install the additional software when accessing these features, or depending on individual browser security settings users, may need to acknowledge a browser message allowing the plugin to run on their system.

Tips for messaging in Blackboard Learn

Instructions for sending a lecturer a message

  1. Open relevant class page
  2. Click "My class message" in the left column
  3. Click "Create Message"
  4. In the Recipients field, select "To"
  5. Select your lecturers name (will have (lecturer +) next to their name
  6. Click the right hand facing arrow so the name moves to the "Recipients" box
  7. Then fill out the compose message section and click "Submit"

There's also a video on how to send a lecturer a message in the "Learning with Technology" page (located under their "My classes" section), then click "Communicating" on the left hand panel and click "Creating a new message" under "Table on contents"
