Student Hub - Staging : Brisbane

Are you a Billy Blue or Media Design School student?

We're challenging you to shift your perspective on the world around you in an innovative way. Re-think how you see the world by capturing something from a new perspective. 

The brief

Using equipment hired (for free) from the Design Technology Store on campus (the MDS AV Hub on the Auckland campus), or using your own, we challenge you to shift your perspective on the world around you in an innovative way. Re-think how you see the world by capturing something from a new perspective. Clichéd images should be avoided. Digital manipulation in post is permitted, but to only enhance the authenticity of the moment captured. Details on applicable adjustments see below under the heading Digital Manipulation*.

Open to all students at Billy Blue College of Design, Torrens University Australia and Media Design School, you will need to sign up to Frontier to participate and submit. All entries will be shown in the gallery below and later judged for prize-winning submissions. See prizes below. Judges will be selected from each campus to ensure fairness. We want to brighten our campus with student work and invite you to design what it should look like.

Use your creativity to craft a piece of legacy in the center of our Bowen Tce campus.
It must encompass Torrens University Australia and the university’s role in Brisbane.

Having trouble using Adobe Software? Don't know your InDesign from your Photoshop?

Join us for design software workshops, facilitated by one of our design lecturers.

• Our Q and A sessions are aimed at providing students with help on using the Adobe programs.​
• ​Group sessions are aimed at completing set activities using the Adobe programs.

You will receive assistance with developing or up-skilling existing skills in a range of software.

• Make sure you have the latest version of the Adobe Creative Suite installed on your computer.
• Please arrive 15 minutes early so we can start on time.

Peer-assisted study sessions

PASS is a free program that offers structured and fun group learning sessions for some of the courses that students find to be more challenging. The weekly one hour study sessions will run all trimester. The sessions are facilitated by students who have previously achieved excellent results in the course and who have completed a nationally accredited training program.

There is no student parking on campus.

On-Street Parking

Restricted paid parking is available on-street. However, much of it is reserved for local residents. 

In the Brisbane Central Traffic Area, you can park for a maximum of two hours on unsigned streets, unless there are parking meters or signs showing otherwise.The two hour limit applies between 7am-6pm, Monday to Friday, and 7am to midday on Saturday.

Commercial Parking

Secure Parking offers 7am to 10pm car parking underneath the campus. Check out https://www.secureparking.com.au/en-au for rates.​

Wilson Parking offers car parking at multiple locations around Brisbane. Check out http://www.wilsonparking.com.au for locations and rates.​

Ride

If you ride your own bike to campus, remember to bring a bike lock for security. At this stage, the campuses do not offer bike racks so you are responsible for finding a safe parking location.

CityCycle

Hire station 53 is opposite the Brisbane campus. There are over 150 stations around Brisbane's CBD. For more information on how to use the service, visit http://www.citycycle.com.au.

Student Support

Supporting you through your studies is a high priority for us.

All nursing campuses have staff dedicated to support students. Counselling services are also available.

Clinical Placement

Students are required to undertake 400 hours of unpaid Clinical Placements which may be located anywhere in Australia.

Clinical Simulation Labs

All nursing students have access to Clinical Simulation Labs where experienced educators will teach required skills and assist in linking theory to practice.  All lab sessions are compulsory. Correct uniform is required to be worn when attending these lab sessions.

• Social Media Policy

Uniform Requirements:

• Think Education Polo Shirt only. NO long sleeve or visible tops under the College Polo.
• Cardigans/jumpers may NOT be worn whilst on duty.
• Navy blue/black tailored trousers or skirts - excludes jeans, tracksuit pants, hipsters or cargo pants.
• Enclosed navy blue or black NON-SLIP shoes as per WHS requirements – NO canvas, joggers or slip on shoes.

Hair

• Must be kept neat, clean and tidy at all times.
• Long hair must be tied back or fastened in such a manner so as not to hang below the collar.
• Hair ties, bands, combs and other hair fasteners are to be at a minimal and of a neutral colour or navy.
• Facial hair – clean-shaven or neatly trimmed beard.
• Approved headwear must be clean, neat and tidy.

Fingernails

• Must be kept neat, clean and well-manicured.
• NO ACRYLIC NAILS OR NAIL VARNISH
• Fingernails should not be visible over the top of the end of the finger when the hands are held with the palms up.

Jewellery

• One plain wedding band, one set of sleepers, studs, or small earrings that sit on the lobe of the ear and do not pose a danger to the patient, resident or student are the only items of jewellery to be worn during placement.
• Facial or other visible body piercing is NOT acceptable. If visible, or stud is non removable, it must be covered by skin coloured tape.

Throughout your studies you may find you need IT assistance. IT services are able to assist you with basic network access such as connecting to Wi-Fi or how to use printing facilities.

IT is unable to assist with hardware or software related issues; this is the responsibility of students to resolve.

Printing

There are five printers located on Brisbane Campus. We are committed to creating a sustainable environment for our students and staff. We use PaperCut, a system which allows you to monitor the environmental impact of your printing and photocopying. You can print directly from your laptop using PaperCut by accessing THINKPrint.To print, you will need to have credits in your THINKPrint account.

THINKPrint Login

• From your personal laptop, head to http://thinkprint
• From a campus computer, click 'more details' on the green popup box in the top right corner
• Log into your THINKPrint account
  • Username = Student ID
  • Password = My Account password

Top up your THINKPrint account

• Credit or debit card
  1. Click the tab 'Top Up by Credit Card'
  2. Enter amount and your credit/debit card details (min. value $2, max. value $100)
  3. Click 'Pay Now' button
  4. Your THINKPrint account will be immediately credited.

Setting up your print job

• Use the 'Web Print' tab to upload and submit your print job
• Click 'Submit a Job'
• Select the relevant printer name, along with preferences like A4/A3, BW/colour etc.
• Click the button '2. Print Options and Account Settings' and select number of copies.
• Click the button '3. Upload Documents'
• Click 'browse' to upload the file you wish to print. You can only upload file types: Word, Excel,Powerpoint, PSF and XPS.
• Click the button 'Upload and Complete'
• Your file will then be sent to the printer queue
• Click Log Out
• Go to a printer to release your print job

Releasing your print job

• Log into the printer by tapping your student ID card on the panel next to the printer
• The panel will give you the option to scan, copy or print
• Find your print job in the list, select it using the touch screen and press 'Print'
• The cost of your print job will be displayed when the job is selected
• Don't forget to log out once you're done printing.
• Go tohttp://thinkprint and log in using your student ID
• Click on the Web Print tab

Your safety is our highest priority. To ensure you stay safe and know what to do in the case of an emergency please read through the information below.

Student Safety

To ensure you stay safe on and off campus we recommend you take the following precautions:

• Avoid being on campus or travelling alone at night
• Be alert and aware of your surroundings
• Avoid dark, vacant and deserted areas
• If an incident does occur please let a member of staff know so we can support you and work alongside local police to minimise risk and promote safety.

Security on campus

After hours emergency, call 000 or your Acting Campus Manager, Sharon Toso, on 0468 516 568.

• Wear your student ID card at all times
• Never leave your belongings unattended
• Do not bring unnecessary valuables to campus
• Report suspicious behaviour or anything you feel may be unsafe
• Report all injuries and incident to Student Services and complete an incident report form
• If you need assistance or to report any medical conditions, please see student services(Eg. insulin, asthma inhaler, medication)

Emergency & Evacuation

Campus Map

In every building you will find emergency evacuation posters that clearly explain where to go and what to do in an emergency evacuation. To be prepared, we recommend you familiarise yourself with emergency exits and procedures in each building you visit.

On hearing the alarm signal evacuate in an orderly manner to the nearest and safest exit while obeying the instructions of the Building and Area Wardens. If it is possible and safe take your personal belongings with you when you leave. If you can’t, do not return to get your belongings unless authorised by Wardens or Fire and Emergency Services personnel.

In the case of an emergency evacuation it is important to remain calm. Walk calmly quickly to the designated assembly area or as advised by a Warden or Fire and Emergency Services personnel and await further instruction.
